The Pattonville Board of Education on Dec. 14 approved asking Pattonville residents to vote on a $111 million zero-tax-rate-change bond issue on April 5, 2022 to fund a new master facilities plan for the district. The plan calls for adding classrooms to address growth in student enrollment; providing safety and maintenance improvements; and updating school facilities to meet current and future teaching and learning needs (see project lists below). Approval of the bond issue would not require an increase in the district tax rate.
Science classes at Holman Middle School had employees from ThermoFisher Scientific visit and lead STEM-based projects with students on Nov. 12.
Kayela Schoen, an environmental health and safety specialist, instructed students through several activities in Teresa Hutti’s science classes.
Nov. 8 was National STEM Day and the local ThermoFisher Scientific manufacturing plant is in Berkeley.
“We're really interested in giving back to the community and we wanted to expose students to some possible STEM careers and talk to them while playing games, building relationships and having fun,” she said. “We are science people, it’s what we do, so we came into these classes to share our knowledge, have fun and let the students talk to us”
